O’hare’s Beer Club June 2013 Box

From Blenheim, New Zealand’s Moa Brewing Company comes their “Moa St. Joseph’s Tripel”.  This Tripel pours a cloudy orange color with a white head and some sediment.  The aroma consisted of fruits, yeast, clove and some spices.  The flavour was of fruit, clove, yeast, spice, brown sugar and a mild bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at an imperial level 9.5% although it does not show in the flavour at all.  This is a very nice Belgian style Tripel even if it comes out of New Zealand!

Commercial Description: Moa St Josephs is a classic Belgian Tripel. Strong spice, caramel and banana ester characters create complex flavours and aromas which are heightened by its extended bottle conditioning period. The combination of bittering hops, malt and candy sugars compliment the high alcohol content and integrate into a very approachable and drinkable Tripel.

Food Pairing according to O’hare’s Beer Club notes are as follows:  Spicy Cajun Crab Cakes
